Key facts
- Türkiye is a large producer and exporter of steel, and its steel makers sell to markets around the world.
- Wire gauge numbers come from several systems that are not interchangeable, so steel wire is safest ordered by diameter in millimetres.
- EN 10218-2 sets the tolerances on diameter for round steel wire, whether bright or coated.
- EN 10244-2 sets coating mass requirements for zinc on steel wire, while ASTM A641 covers galvanized carbon steel wire in coils in soft, medium and hard temper.
- FOB, CFR and CIF are Incoterms rules, the trade terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce.
Why do buyers source steel wire in Türkiye?
The case starts with the steel itself. The Turkish Steel Producers Association reports that the country’s crude steel output and its steel exports both grew in its latest annual figures, and the Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association describes Türkiye’s steel manufacturers as exporting all over the world, with the European Union as their largest market and the Middle East and Africa among the others. Wire is drawn from that steel, so a buyer in Türkiye is dealing with an established metals industry rather than a niche one.
We keep this argument at the level of steel on purpose. Neutral, published trade figures for wire alone are hard to pin down, so we do not quote wire export volumes, rankings or tariff codes here. What matters for an importer is narrower: whether a manufacturer can meet your diameter, coating or strength, standard and packing, and whether the offer you receive states all of them.
What does Reinwent do in an import from Türkiye?
Reinwent is a trading and sourcing company, not a manufacturer. Our offices are in Istanbul and in Middletown, Delaware, so buyers on both sides of the Atlantic reach us during their working day. We take one specification, match it with manufacturers in Türkiye that can make it, and manage the order from there. If you are new to intermediaries, read what a steel trading company does.
Every order runs through the same five steps, described on our how we work page:
- Price research. We compare offers and match your request with the right manufacturer.
- Quotation. You receive price, lead time and terms within 12 hours.
- Sample and testing. Production starts only after you approve the sample and test results.
- Production tracking. We follow the order at the factory until it is ready to ship.
- Shipment and delivery. We track the shipment until it reaches you.
The steel wire hub lists the four wire types we supply, and each has a sourcing page: galvanized wire from Türkiye, black annealed wire from Türkiye, cold drawn wire from Türkiye and spring steel wire from Türkiye.
Which wire can you order, and in what range?
The ranges below are the ones published on our product pages. A size outside them can still be sent in; we check it with manufacturers and tell you plainly if it cannot be supplied.
| Product | Diameter | Coating or strength | Standards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hot-dip galvanized wire | 0.8 to 8 mm | Zinc 50 to 300 g/m² | EN 10244-2 and ASTM A641 |
| Black annealed wire | 0.8 to 8 mm | 300 to 450 N/mm² | EN 10218-2 |
| Cold drawn wire | 0.8 to 6 mm | 500 to 1,000 N/mm² | EN 10218-2 |
| High carbon spring wire | 1.3 to 4 mm | On request | On request |
For spring wire, the grade and standard are agreed per order and confirmed in the quotation, so send your drawing or your customer’s specification.
How should the order be defined?
An importer who sends a loose request gets offers that cannot be laid side by side. Five fields carry most of the weight.
Diameter in millimetres. Gauge numbers are an index into a table, and there are several tables. The Standard Wire Gauge is not interchangeable with the American wire gauge, and the Birmingham gauge is distinct from both the Standard Wire Gauge and the Stubs steel wire gauge. If a tender quotes a gauge, convert it with our wire gauge chart, confirm which system was meant, and order the mm figure.
Zinc coating, for galvanized wire. Zinc keeps steel from rusting in two ways: it shields the surface, and because it is more reactive than iron it corrodes in place of the steel at scratches and cut ends. The American Galvanizers Association links the service life of a zinc coating directly to its thickness. EN 10244-2 sets the coating mass requirements for zinc on steel wire, in g/m², and ASTM A641 groups coatings into its own classes. The two systems do not convert into each other, so name one and take the class or figure from it; our guide to zinc coating classes sets out both.
Strength or temper. For black annealed and cold drawn wire, give the tensile band you need within the ranges above. For galvanized wire ordered to ASTM A641, state the temper, since that standard covers soft, medium and hard temper wire supplied in coils.
Diameter tolerance. EN 10218-2 specifies the tolerances on diameter for round steel wire, bright, metallic coated or non-metallic coated. Ask every offer to state its tolerance against that standard, or against the product standard that applies.
Delivery term. FOB, CFR and CIF are Incoterms rules, three-letter trade terms published by the International Chamber of Commerce to divide tasks, costs and risks between seller and buyer. Our quote form lists all eleven Incoterms rules; choose one and name the port it refers to.
Coil weight and packing are the last field. They decide handling at your warehouse and how a container is loaded, and the tonnage per container is confirmed per order. Our container loading guide explains the published container limits.
How do you compare offers from different manufacturers?
Put prices side by side only once each offer states the same things:
- the diameter in mm and its tolerance, with the standard named;
- for galvanized wire, the coating standard and the class or g/m² figure;
- for annealed or drawn wire, the tensile band, and for ASTM A641 orders the temper;
- the coil weight and packing;
- the quantity, the delivery term and the port or place it applies to.
An offer that leaves any of these open is not yet comparable, and a low price on it can hide a lighter coating, a wider tolerance or different packing. Part of our work is to send those gaps back before the offer reaches you; see how to choose a wire manufacturer for the checks on each plant. Our galvanized wire guide for importers, tie wire guide and binding wire guide go deeper into the fields for those products.
What should a quote request contain?
The quicker the specification is complete, the quicker it can be priced. A useful request lists:
- the product and the diameter in mm;
- the zinc coating or tensile band, and the standard;
- the coil weight or packing you prefer, if any;
- the quantity in tonnes;
- the destination port or site and the delivery term;
- any test or sample needs, and anything your customer’s tender requires.
Send it through our request a quote form; the Details field takes anything that does not fit elsewhere. You receive a quotation within 12 hours.
What does this guide not cover?
Customs clearance, import duties and the documents a shipment needs depend on the destination country and on the goods. We do not state them here. Before you place an order, confirm them with your customs broker, so the delivery term and paperwork in the contract match what your import will need. See how steel wire is classified for customs.
