Key facts
- Türkiye is a producer and exporter of galvanized wire, and Reinwent sources galvanized wire from manufacturers in Türkiye.
- China is the largest steel producing country, and its steel industry has a large number of companies.
- Türkiye uses one time zone, UTC+3 all year, and China uses a single time zone, UTC+8.
- EN 10244-2 and ASTM A641 set requirements for zinc-coated steel wire whatever the country of origin.
- Anti-dumping measures apply to a particular product from a particular exporting country, so a buyer checks them for the origin, product and destination.
Why compare Chinese and Turkish galvanized wire?
Many buyers who search for Chinese galvanized wire do so for a good reason. China is the largest steel producing country, Wikipedia reports that it makes more than half of the world’s steel, and its steel industry has a large number of companies, so a buyer has a wide choice of mills.
What many importers do not know is that Türkiye is a producer and exporter of galvanized wire too. The Turkish Steel Producers Association reports crude steel production and steel product exports for the country, and wire is drawn and galvanized from that steel. Reinwent sources galvanized wire from manufacturers in Türkiye. A buyer used to Chinese-origin wire can ask for Turkish-origin quotations on the same specification.
This page does not rank the origins. It states no price, delivery time, order size or quality ranking for either, because no neutral source supports one.
How do the two origins compare?
| Point | China | Türkiye |
|---|---|---|
| Origin and what it means | Largest steel producing country, with many companies | Producer and exporter of steel and galvanized wire |
| Distance and routes | Depends on the port pair and the line | Black Sea, Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, next to Europe and the Middle East |
| Time zone | One time zone, UTC+8 | UTC+3 all year |
| Customs framework for EU buyers | Check the measures for this origin | Customs union with the EU; measures can also apply by product |
| Standards and specification | EN 10244-2 or ASTM A641 can be named | EN 10244-2 or ASTM A641 can be named |
| Documents to check with a broker | Origin, product code, duties, measures | Origin, product code, duties, measures |
| What to compare in quotations | Same diameter, coating mass, tensile band, standard, coil weight and delivery term | |
| What Reinwent offers | Quotation within 12 hours for Turkish-origin wire from manufacturers in Türkiye | |
What do distance and time zone change?
Türkiye lies mainly in Anatolia in West Asia, with a smaller part, East Thrace, in Southeast Europe. It borders the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea, and its neighbours include Greece and Bulgaria in Europe and Iraq and Syria in the Middle East. We quote no kilometres and no days: transit time depends on the port pair and the shipping line.
Türkiye uses UTC+3 all year. China observes a single standard time, UTC+8, across the whole country. UTC+3 is closer to European and Gulf clocks.
What is the customs framework for EU buyers?
A customs union is a trade bloc made of a free trade area with a common external tariff. Türkiye and the European Union have one. Wikipedia states that goods may travel between the two without customs restrictions, that the union does not cover agriculture, services or public procurement, and that for products of the European Coal and Steel Community a free trade area was set up. Your customs broker confirms how that applies to your wire code.
Trade remedies need the same care. Anti-dumping action usually means extra import duty on a particular product from a particular exporting country, and the World Trade Organization reports each measure as covering one product from one country. We do not say that Turkish wire is free of such measures: some destinations apply measures to Turkish origin too. Ask the broker or the authority which measures apply to your origin, product code and destination. For where wire sits in the tariff, see how steel wire is classified for customs.
Does origin decide quality?
No. A standard applies to the wire, not to the country on the coil. EN 10244-2, as BSI describes it, covers zinc and zinc alloy coatings on steel wire, and ASTM A641 covers zinc-coated carbon steel wire. Our guide to zinc coating classes shows each standard on its own, and the tensile strength guide explains the strength bands.
A Chinese mill and a Turkish mill that both quote the same standard, coating mass and tensile band are quoting the same thing. Origin is then one factor among others. For definitions first, read what galvanized wire is.
How do you compare two quotations from different origins?
Put them side by side and tick each line:
- The diameter is the same figure in millimetres, not a gauge number.
- The same standard is named, EN 10244-2 or ASTM A641, and not “equivalent”.
- The coating mass in g/m² or the class is the same under that standard.
- The tensile band is the same, or both state the temper.
- The coil weight and packing are the same.
- The delivery term and the named port are the same. Our guide on how steel wire is priced shows what each Incoterms rule includes.
- The customs broker has checked the duty and any trade defence measure for each origin.
If a line is missing, ask for it first. The galvanized wire guide for importers lists the full order fields.
When may Chinese origin still be the better fit?
Sometimes. A Chinese mill may already make the exact size, coating and packing you need, and you may have a working relationship you trust. China’s wide choice of mills suits some orders. We do not rank the origins: let the written specification and the broker’s answer decide.
What does this mean for UAE, Nigerian and EU buyers?
The points above hold for any destination, but the paperwork differs. A Gulf buyer should read binding wire supplier for UAE importers, and a Nigerian importer binding wire supplier for Nigeria importers. For an EU buyer, the customs union above is the starting point, followed by a broker’s check on the product code. The whole route is in importing steel wire from Türkiye, and how to choose a steel wire manufacturer in Türkiye covers the choice of mill.
How does Reinwent help?
Reinwent is a trading and sourcing company, not a manufacturer. It sources galvanized wire from manufacturers in Türkiye: 0.8 to 8 mm diameter, with a zinc coating mass of 50 to 300 g/m², to EN 10244-2 and ASTM A641, as set out on the galvanized wire product page and in galvanized wire from Türkiye. It asks several manufacturers to quote on your specification, sets the offers on one basis and stays in contact until delivery, with one point of contact. You receive a quotation within 12 hours at the latest. See how we work.
In short, Türkiye is a producer and exporter of galvanized wire, Chinese wire is a real option, and a buyer used to Chinese origin can ask for a Turkish-origin quotation on the same specification. When it is ready, request a quote.
