High carbon steel wire for springs
Spring wire is steel wire made to be formed into springs. High carbon steel is used for springs and high-strength wires, because carbon raises the strength of the steel. This range is offered in diameters from 1.3 to 4 mm. Standards and strength grades are available on request. Include the diameter you need in your quote request.
What makes spring steel wire different
Spring steels have a very high yield strength. That lets a spring made from them return to its original shape after significant bending, twisting or deflection, which is the property a spring depends on. Strength from carbon has a cost, however: steel becomes less ductile as carbon rises. Some spring wires are also heat treated by patenting or alloyed with elements such as silicon and chromium.
Who uses it
Spring wire goes to makers of coil springs, including vehicle springs such as suspension springs, and to formed parts that must return to shape after bending. For wire without spring properties, see cold drawn wire.
Questions buyers ask
What is high carbon spring wire?
It is spring steel wire made from high carbon steel, a group of steels that is used for springs and high-strength wires. Higher carbon content raises the strength of the wire.
What diameters are available?
Diameters run from 1.3 mm to 4 mm.
Which standard applies to spring wire?
Standards are on request. Include the standard you need when you request a quotation.
Why is spring steel used for springs?
Spring steels have a very high yield strength, so a part made from them returns to its original shape after being bent, twisted or deflected.
